obama on "meet the press." the notion that this was sloppiness, is that what it was? >> i don't think so at all. what troubles me is the mindset of the president that it reveals that the death of four americans is just something that with a few minor alterations you can clean up. that's what sloppiness employs that things are basically okay but a few mistakes were made by unnamed individuals. the fact is that the ideology of the administration, the world view they have is that things in libya were going fine, we were moving toward a normal status in that country and thrfort repeated requests by embassy tripoli for enhanced security were denied. and we still don't know, not from the state department's internal review panel. not from the reports that congress issues. why it was that the state department continually rejected these requests for more assistance that led to the tragedy on 9/11. it's a very disturbing statement by the president that reveals a lot more troubling aspects of the way our people overseas are being protected. rick: some good leads is how the president described the i

advantage to negotiating this in january. what have you heard, sir? >> i watched the president's press conference. basically we were told it was a serious discussion and there was a recognition on the part of president obama and senator reid that they are going to have to it craft a piece of legislation that would get a great deal of support from republicans in the senate because they realize that is the only way something is going to pass in the house. let's be encouraged by the fact that we are finally talking seriously, that there is going to be serious discussions tomorrow between senator mcconnell and senator reid and another good piece of news is the debt ceiling was not even brought up. i think there is also recognition it is too late in the game to try and fold that in because unfortunately probably not going to be a whole lot of serious discussion about what we need to do to save entitlements. >> sean: there is definitely true and i heard the exact same thing he does not get a debt ceiling increase which is important. he doesn't get the stimulus that he originally wa bargaine.

on this right now. so not everybody is. a live picture of the press conference. a live picture of the capitol. five days away, the big tax hikes could kick in. we are now receiving word that the president, president obama will not send legislation to congress today that might avert the so-called fiscal cliff. the president pulled the plug on his holiday trip to hawaii and arrived in washington shortly after 11:00 in hopes of prodding congress to lock in taxes for all but the wealthiest 2%. so a republican source told us he would be sending legislation to capitol hill, but the white house is telling us no, that is not the case. you have the president there at the white house. you have the senate in session and they are scattered throughout the country and taxes are going up on january 1st. let's listen to harry reid. he is not happy about the house and being away. he is the top senate democrat. >> we are here in washington working. we have the house of representatives out watching movies and watching their kids play soccer and basketball and doing all kinds of things. they should be here. >> h
